Fess Up is a party game. This page explains, in plain English, what the game stores and who can see it.
What we collect
- The name you type when you join.
- The stories you add to a game.
- Your votes.
- Chat messages you send in a room.
- The room code of the game you are in.
- A random anonymous ID, created automatically when you open the game. It is not linked to your email, phone number or any account.
We do not ask for your email, phone number, location, contacts or payment details. We do not run ads or analytics, and we do not sell your information.
Who can see what
- Everyone in a room sees the player names and the scores.
- Everyone in a room can read the room chat. The host can delete any message, and you can delete your own. Only the last 100 messages of a room are kept.
- Each story is shown to the room without a name on it. Who wrote it is shown to the room only when the host taps Reveal. Your own stories are visible to you.
- The TV view page (/tv) shows the player names, scores, the story being voted on, and the results of each round to anyone who has the room code. It never shows who wrote a story before the host reveals it, and it never shows unplayed stories, votes in progress or chat.
- The person who runs Fess Up can technically access the database that holds this information, but does not use it to look at your stories.
What is saved on your phone
Your browser keeps your name, your current room code and your anonymous login on your device so you can come back to a game after closing the page. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Services that help run the game
- Supabase stores the game data.
- Netlify hosts the website.
The fonts and the code library the page needs are served from the game's own website, so no other company gets a record of your visit. Supabase and Netlify can see your IP address when your browser contacts them, like any website host.
How long it is kept
- A game room, with its players, stories and votes, is deleted after a day with no activity. It is deleted right away if the last player leaves.
- If you leave a game, your stories in it are removed.
- Anonymous IDs can remain after games are deleted. They contain no name or story.
- There is no game history and no saved stats.
Your choices
Leave the game to remove your stories from it. To ask for anything else to be deleted, email the address below.
Children
Fess Up is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
